What is holistic coaching?
Holistic coaching, also known as “laissez-faire” coaching, is based on the idea that a happy team naturally becomes a successful team. Coaches provide very little structured training or positive feedback when using holistic coaching methods. The holistic coach, on the other hand, works to create an environment in which players feel comfortable exploring and pursuing skill development on their own time and in their own way. The coach does not act as a central authority in a holistic coaching approach, instead allowing team members to set their own agenda.
The holistic coaching style is best suited to mature players who have already developed the creativity and self-awareness to guide themselves.
Holistic coaching entails a lot of relationship-building as well as the coach’s commitment to each player as an athlete and person as a whole. While this requires some additional effort, it can pay off for experienced teams with the maturity to handle this “hands-off” coaching style.
How holistic coaching works?
In the $1 billion personal coaching industry, there are numerous styles, techniques, and approaches. It makes sense that there are so many different methods that have proven to be effective for people because there are so many different people who have hired coaches for various reasons.
However, the most basic reason that someone hires a coach is to improve some aspect of their life.
Whether it is improvement in business, home, or relationship/love life, the goal of a coach is to use the coaching style that best helps their client achieve their desired goals.
Holistic coaches can use a variety of techniques to assist clients in making transformations on all levels. To achieve healing from the inside out, coaches may employ spiritual meditation techniques, self-empowerment, or mindfulness/relaxation exercises. With this style of coaching, the goal is to create a sense of fulfillment and well-being in people’s lives, and it can benefit a wide range of people.
People who have struggled with divorce, job loss, health issues, or other emotional traumas can benefit from holistic coaching on all levels. It will take personal strength and commitment because healing is not always easy or pretty, and it does not happen overnight.
To make the necessary changes to improve one’s overall well-being, one must be able to face harsh realities. It is, however, necessary in order to grow and change your life. Sometimes you are the one who is hurting or impeding yourself, and a holistic coach can assist you in accepting responsibility for this.
Holistic coaches provide their clients with the support and encouragement they require for genuine change to occur. They will ask the right questions to get to the bottom of each problem and then help them find solutions.
Who is a Holistic Health Coach?
A Holistic Health Coach is a trained professional who uses an integrative approach to diet and lifestyle changes in order to improve the health of their clients. They will examine their clients’ nutrition patterns, relationships, physical fitness, spirituality, and other factors as a guide toward a healthier life.
Here is why it might be a good idea to work with a Holistic Health Coach:
1. We coach the client with the disease or problem rather than treating the client with the disease or problem:
We believe that poor diet and lifestyle choices, whether conscious or unconscious, cause the majority of diseases, illnesses, injuries, and poor health. The key to recovery and good health is to first become aware of your choices, this is where we come in and then to implement foundational health principles (thinking, breathing, hydration, diet, movement, and sleep) that allow the body to heal and thrive as it should. A 360-degree view of the problem is the approach to truly working holistically, taking into account the physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, intellectual, and occupational aspects, among others.
2. You can have it all:
When you think of a holistic health coach, you get a whole package deal. Holistic Health Coaches combine personal training, nutrition coaching, stress management & relaxation techniques during their sessions. Traditionally, personal trainers focus on exercise and possibly diet, but do not assess and consider mental and emotional aspects, nor do they assess and consider lifestyle and stress factors.
3. Balance is the key:
Holistic health and lifestyle coaches assess your lifestyle to determine where you may be out of balance and then coach you on how to achieve balance. This could mean doing less or prioritising relaxation.
4. We help you to realize your potential:
Our job is to shed light on areas of your life that you may be unaware are out of balance. This enables clients to make better choices that are true to who they are. When you know what’s important to you in life, it’s much easier to say no to things that don’t help you get closer to your goal or dream, and yes to things that do.
5. We train you for life:
Our goal is to help people find balance in their lives; our recommendations are based on your needs, not your wants (although they are important too). Unfortunately, most personal trainers still believe in “no pain, no gain,” which can lead to problems. We teach you how to truly listen to your body and make healthy decisions about diet, exercise, rest, and play.
6. We focus on the long-term sustainability of goals:
It’s not that you cannot lose weight in 5kg in 5 weeks, you can. You can also explore all the fad diets that promise to shed those extra weights, and you will see results, but what happens after that? We lapse back into our old habits. Short terms change yields short term results. We work with clients who want to permanently improve their lifestyle. People who make the decision to adopt healthy habits, become informed and empowered, and fall in love with the process. Clients who follow our process discover that the results come naturally.
7. We assess our client’s needs & wants:
Our recommendations are based on careful consideration. We evaluate a client’s lifestyle, diet, stress and hormonal levels, sleep quality, digestion, movement, posture, breathing mechanics, and mood, among other things. Our recommendations are based on a thorough assessment and review; we work holistically and leave no stone unturned.
Hopefully, you now have a better understanding of how a holistic health and lifestyle coach can assist you in reaching your full potential.
