It is known to almost each one of us that stress has an impact on the overall health and well-being, yet most of us fail to take necessary action to prevent it. Although it is impossible to completely avoid stress, appropriate management is possible, and in long term situations is important.
Stress has the ability to alter physical as well as psychological well being of a person. Everyone experiences stress at some point in his/her life, and it is completely normal to react and respond on the same. Stress becomes a real area of concern when it begins to interfere in every domain of life and ends up deteriorating life’s quality.

Here are some of the ways that can help you de-stress yourself to become a peaceful you.

  1. Get some quality sleep: It is important to understand the difference between sleep and good quality sleep. Multiple studies have shown a significant correlation between stress and sleep and how lack of sleep can worsen the condition. Sleep is considered to be an important adaptive behavior that can have an impact on almost all the networks in the body. A blissful night’s sleep or a nap in between the day can help you calm your senses and give you fresher perspective to tasks at hand.
  2. Eat well: What we eat, when we eat, and how much we eat has a direct impact on the overall health and well-being of an individual. Eating a balanced diet helps to combat stress. Eating habits quite a few times are easily altered consciously or unconsciously when exposed to stress. Fulfilling the nutritional needs can help in de-stressing. Recent studies have indicated that a diet rich in unsaturated fats such as olive oil, fruits, nuts, beans, cereals, and fish oil supplements lead to reduction in depression and stress. On the contrary, high level of saturated fats, refined carbohydrates and processed food are linked to poorer mental health. Caffeine and alcohol are simulators of increased stress .
  3. Regular physical activity: It is no secret that regular physical exercise provides quite a few benefits such as weight management, blood pressure, blood sugar management along with a significant role in stress reduction. Stress is accompanied by the release of hormone known as cortisol which has the capability to worsen or deteriorate the health of a person. Physical activity or an exercise helps to regulate cortisol level in the brain, release of happy hormones boosts your mood and enable you to manage stress better.
  4. Meditate: Meditation is the key to psychologically managing many health problems and stress is one of them. Multiple studies have shown that meditation can help in reducing the effect of stress from the body. It provides peace and calmness to the mind which help individuals align with their inner self and respond to stressors positively.
