Ever since the tsunami and the earthquake in Japan, I have been thinking if the mother earth is trying to give us subtle messages that you and I are not listening to.
Recently, I was in a Qi Gong class – my first experience in learning the art of cultivating energy. I am unable to articulate in words what my experience was because something like this can only be felt and experienced and not be simply put in words.I was amazed at how absent we are in our day-to-day life and how self-obsessed we can be by being neglectful of others and our surroundings (plants, animals, the earth). As I listened and tried to absorb the concept of ‘Qi’, it was evident to me that just like human beings have different meridian points (also known as acupuncture points), so does the mother earth. And just like blockages in our energy channels can lead to diseases, blockages in the earth’s meridian points can lead to the emergence of natural calamities like earthquakes and tsunamis.
I feel profound pain for the loss of lives in Japan but also feel that there is an important lesson for us to learn from this devastating experience. The Japanese for the longest time just like other nations have been catching fish in abundance and in the process also leading to the death of whales and dolphins. This obviously have shifted the earth’s equilibrium and has lead to manifestation of these calamities. It seems like the earth is calling out for help and we appear to be ignorant of its call.
In the book ‘Alchemy of Illness’, Kat Duff talks about how illness can be a time for great transformation – illness of mankind and illness of the earth. Illness surfaces once tensions build to a critical mass and the old order finally gives way, one is often stuck by an extraordinary sense of peace, the sense of a new-found equilibrium. I feel the time has come to call for universal emergence and to take personal responsibility to what we are facing today. Let us emerge together to correct the wrongs. Let this be a period of transformation. And if we don’t take that personal responsibility and learn the lessons, I am beginning to feel that more losses are to be felt in the next few years. But if we do, we will be able to reestablish equilibrium, and allow new solutions to evolve.
” We cannot afford to be without the services of rain forest, starfish or bacteria. If one part of the system becomes possessed by its “little vision” – oversteps its in the relationship and moves in a unilateral manner – we have war or ecological crises, cancer or psychoses. ” – Stephen Larsen
